Home School Legal Defense AssociationI believe it is imperative for home schooling widow-widowers to belong to HSLDA. (I would strongly recommend it to ANY family) As widows we no longer have the protection of our husbands and HSLDA is there to help us with any school related contacts we may encounter. HSLDA has a widow’s fund enabling home schooling widows to purchase curriculum for their children’s education. This fund is open to all widows regardless of their membership status with HSLDA. If a widow is unable to afford HSLDA membership, HSLDA is willing to cover that cost as well. The Old Schoolhouse The Magazine for Homeschool Families The Old Schoolhouse is an attractive magazine with spiritually encouraging articles. Although designed for the homeschool family, everyone would be blessed to read the articles helping direct our attitudes towards God's ways. The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has offered a free subscription to widows-widowers who homeschool. If you are interested please contact us.

BOOKS Let's Roll BY Lisa Beamer Lisa Beamer does an excellent job of putting the tragic circumstances in her life into perspective. Grab a box of Kleenex and a cup of coffee, and let her words encourage you.
In The Presence Of My Enemies By Gracia Burnham with Dean Merrill Most of us prayed for Martian and Gracia Burnham during the time they were held hostage in the Philippines. Now Gracia has written an account of their kidnapping and the year of terror in the jungle. Emotionally it is a difficult book to read, but well worth it! You will find encouragement and hope through reading Gracia's journey as she learned to trust Christ in the midst of tragedy. To Fly Again By Gracia Burnham Gracia's second book written from her experiences since returning home, gives hope to those experiencing crisis in their lives. You will find this book a comfort in the everyday trails you are experiencing. Sit down with a copy of the book, or better yet, order it in CD form so you can listen to it while you are driving. He Said "PRESS" By Patti McCarthy Broderick
"Press" was the last word Patti's husband would ever speak. As a military pilot he soared the skies. That is where he was when he entered eternity. You will be blessed as you read Patti's journey into widowhood with two small children. You will be refreshed when you see how the Lord has faithfully carried her through her grief and her sorrow. You may order this book through Patti's web site. www.hesaidpress.com
When Heaven Is Silent By Ronald Dunn When your life comes crashing down around you, easy answers and quick fixes cannot ease your pain. But there is hope and there is healing. When Heaven is Silent takes you on a journey to discover how God works through the most difficult experiences in life. When God Weeps By Joni Eareckson Tada
A Tempered Faith Rediscovering Hope in the Ashes of Loss By Jennifer Sands Jim Sands was killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center. His wife Jennifer invites us to walk with her through the days and months following her husband's death. This book is well worth reading. Even though Jennifer's Catholic Faith differs from FOYCWW's Statement of Faith, we feel the book offers an honest approach to the pain and grief of a young widow.
